| FOURESS Valves for Singapore’s Changi Water Reclamation Project |
Bangalore, November 11, 2005: Fouress Engineering (India) Ltd, Bangalore, the pioneers in the manufacture of Industrial Valves in India for over 40 years today handed over the 3000mm knife gate valve to United Engineers Singapore Pte Ltd., for Changi Water Reclamation Plant (CWRP), which is the largest Knife gate valve manufactured in Asia. This project is the largest waste water reclamation project currently under execution anywhere in the world. According to Mr. A A Majmudar, Joint Managing Director, Fouress Engineering (India) Ltd, “It was a well coordinated effort of nearly two years of qualification, which resulted in Fouress securing a series of orders against stiff International competition, for the supply of over 2400 Nos Butterfly Valves (40 mm to 2400mm in size) and large Knife Gate values (size: 3000mm). Leading International valve manufacturers such as KSB, Amri, Tyco and others were in the fray. These projects are executed through major EPC contractors such as United Engineers, Keppel Engineering, Voltas International, Semb Corp. Engineers et al, all from Singapore.” For the first time in the history of Singapore, the Public Utility Board (PUB) of Singapore, the National Water agency managing Singapore’s water supply, water catchment and sewerage, accepted an Indian engineering company for the supply of majority of Butterfly valves and Knife Gate valves being used in their prestigious Waste Water treatment project (2.3 Million M 3 / Day treatment) being built at the cost of US Dollar 2.3 Billion – one of largest waste water treatment plant being built anywhere in the world. He further elaborated “All the valves being supplied to this project are operated through state of the art intelligent electric/ pneumatic actuators which share advanced infra red non intrusive commissioning / communication protocol and control the process parameters through Profibus Digital control system without any human intervention. Valves being supplied by Fouress will control the operation of Head Works, Sedimentation Tanks, Bio reactors and Influent pumping stations in the two liquid modules, where the waste water, collected through the Deep tunnel Sewerage System (Tunnel of coming from all over the Singapore City) is being treated” The occasion today is the culmination of pioneering Fouress efforts to make of its presence in the global arena. Having completed Changi C3C Liquid Module Butterfly valves (about 1100 nos.) and the largest Knife Gate valve, which form part of the module, the Knife Gate valve is put up for testing by visiting team of United Engineers, Singapore, Voltas International Ltd, Singapore. Mr. N. Vasu, Sr. Project Manager one of United Engineers and Mr. Shyam M.Sidhwani, Chief Project Manager of Voltas International participated in the inspection of the Valves. |
| About the largest Knife valve in Asia: |
This 40 tonne monolith is an engineering and construction marvel representing high-end design and manufacturing skills of Fouress. Custom-made to exacting specifications of CH2M Hill, the valve is required to handle highly corrosive, raw sewage at the entry point of the plant. Constructed completely in 316L stainless steel expected 40 years lifespan of the plant, the design was based on several international codes ably blended by Fouress using modern design tools of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to guarantee structural integrity, operational efficiency and corrosion free performance. Fully closed valve develops a load of 100 tonnes on the valve seat and reaction forces and moments were estimated accurately by advanced design tools employing FEA and 3D modeling. Advanced welding procedures were developed in-house followed by several special treatments like vibration and thermal stress relieving to guarantee distortion free welding prior to machining. Final assembly and testing success is the result of long Fouress experience and robust facilities developed in-house for handling this valve to its ultimate test set up. Fouress is happy to state that for any valve product, the ultimate acid test is the leak tightness. Fouress has surpassed the specifications requirement by providing a “zero” leak valve against project specifications of permissible small leakage rate in difference to size and complexity of construction. Fouress and India are proud on this occasion that such high end product is being delivered out of Bangalore using totally indigenous resources, technical abilities and manufacturing infrastructure. Speaking on the occasion S.N Vasu, Senior Project Manager, United Engineers, Singapore “Prior to bagging these contracts Fouress valves were qualified by Public Standards Board (PSB), Singapore and went through critical technical evaluation by renowned American consultants M/s CH2M HILL, USA, who designed and engineered this Waste Water project on behalf of PUB. For the first time, for a major project of global importance involving state of art design, Indian products are overwhelmingly recommend by the owners and consultants. It is a matter of Pride for the Fouress Group and also for INDIA that this is the single largest order secured for VALVES by any Indian company and that too for a highly quality conscious market of Singapore” Fouress Engineering (India) Ltd exports around 30 cores worth of Industrial Valves to Europe, USA and countries in Middle East, South East Asia and Far East. |
